P3O: PM-Partners are offering both Foundation and Practitioner courses, with the new Practitioner certification started in the new year
PM-Partners are excited about the new P3O® offering. The OGC's latest best practice guidance to the Project, Programme and Portfolio Offices provides a decision-enabling and delivery support function for change at all levels within an organisation.
The P3O® guidance covers the spectrum of offices from permanent offices such as Portfolio Office, Centre of Excellence and the Corporate Programme Office, through to linked offices and temporary offices (eg project office). It recognises the need for tailoring according to the type of organisation including size, maturity levels, culture and desired outcomes.
| The P3O® guidance is aligned with OGC’s PRINCE2® and MSP® and bridges the gap between strategy / policy makers and the delivery arm of the organisation. |
The guidance describes how to successfully establish, develop and maintain appropriate business support structures.

03/06/09 - Since July 1st, 2009 all PMP exams will be based on PMBOK® Guide 4th Edition
| On 31 December 2008, the PMI® released the new PMBOK® Guide Fourth Edition. As a result of this: |
- The new PMP® exam will be based on the new PMBOK® Guide Fourth Edition from 30 June 2009.
- The new CAPM® exam will be based on the new PMBOK® Guide Fourth Edition from 31 July 2009.
Until then the exams will remain in alignment with the PMBOK® Guide Third Edition.
PMI estimates that only a small percentage of exam questions will require updating in relation to the new Standard.
The examination formats will remain the same. The PMP® exam will consist of 200 questions to be completed within 4 hours; the CAPM® exam 150 questions to be completed within 3 hours.
The new PMBOK® Guide Fourth Edition focuses on consistency between family of PMI standards and clarity in certain processes and guidelines. Key updates include:
- 42 processes (previously 44 processes)
- All process names are in verb-noun format
- Clarification of the Project Charter versus the Project Scope Statement
- New appendix addressing key interpersonal skills for project managers
- A standard approach for change requests covering preventive, corrective and defect repairs
PM-partners group will be aligning our PMI Preparation Workshop for PMP® and CAPM® examinations in parallel with the release of the new examinations.

03/06/09 - PRINCE2 Update 2009
The latest update of PRINCE2 is going to be launched on 16th June 2009, and there will be phased introduction of the new
training and exams over the following 3 months.
There are significant changes but the basic principles of the well proven PRINCE2 methodology are retained.
The main difference between the 2009 version and earlier versions is that there will be two manuals: 'Managing Projects Using PRINCE2' and 'Directing Projects Using PRINCE2'.
Both the Foundation and Practitioner Examinations will be based on the new 'Managing Projects' manual and will not include material from the new 'Directing Projects' book. Depending on demand, an examination based on the 'Directing' manual may be developed and launched towards the end of 2009.
The PRINCE2 Foundation and Practitioner examinations will remain very much the same as they are now. All candidates who have taken their examination on the earlier edition of the method will find their qualification remains valid until they need to re-register.
During 3 months after the launch there will be a cross over period where exams will be issued on either the 2005 or 2009 version of the manual. After this, exams will be based on the 2009 manual only.

The guidance describes how to successfully establish, develop and maintain appropriate business support structures.
Currently there is a P3O® Foundation examination which may be undertaken as part of a P3O® Foundation workshop. The 40 minute multiple choice examination focuses on concepts, structures and duties of a P3O and is aimed at anyone working with or in a P3O®.
APM Group (the accreditation body) intends to launch a Practitioner level examination at a later stage.
