Recruitment & Contracting

As a consequence of our years of experience providing project management consultancy and training services, we maintain an extensive database of project management contacts. This provides the driver for our distinctive recruitment service that provides permanent, interim and contract project and programme management personnel.

How are we different?

We believe that we are the only specialist, project management recruitment organisation that adopts an academically researched, evidence-based approach to recruitment.

How does this benefit you?

It allows us to identify those personal difference parameters (such as project management competencies, personality traits, leadership styles and management skills) that are most closely associated with a project manager’s job performance. We do this within the context of your own organisation’s unique characteristics.

PM-Partner’s Recruitment Model

As the model suggests, the assessment of a project manager’s suitability for a specific role involves assessing three core components and their interrelationships.

Firstly, we spend time with you understanding the context within which the project manager will be working. This includes not only your specific Objectives and Requirements but also assessing your Culture and Values as well as Project Specifics (size, ‘novelty’, complexity, technology, pace). This feeds into the production of a person specification that summarises the criteria to be used in selecting candidates and allows us to initiate the search process.

Secondly, having identified a shortlist of potential candidates, we assess each candidate’s current project management competencies via a self-report questionnaire and a face-to-face structured interview that requires the candidate to provide evidence to support his/her competencies in core areas: Integration (of processes, techniques and components); Management of Time, Cost, People, Risk and Procurement; Effective Communication; Commercial Awareness.

Thirdly, we use psychometric tests (we employ organisational behaviourists certified by the British Psychological Society to administer and interpret such tests) to assess each candidate’s Personality Traits, Leadership Styles, Management Skills and Emotional Intelligence). Again, we follow up these tests with a structured interview to delve into specific issues arising from these tests.

Finally, we present our findings to you in an overall assessment document for each candidate. At this stage, you might typically interview the short-listed candidates. We can provide you with an interview guide to help you further explore some of the issues we have raised in our assessment document and we are also happy to sit in on the interviews to provide our own feedback.

As an alternative (or supplement) to the above model, we can help you to develop an assessment centre to assess a group of candidates on job-related parameters such as leadership, interpersonal skills, management skills, abilities and project management competencies.

The assessment process within our recruitment model provides an obvious overlap with some of our other services, such as Training, Coaching & Mentoring and Competency Assessment of your existing project management personnel which means that we offer a full selection, assessment, training and development service.
