Summary

The PMI Examination is changing as a result of research the PMI conducted regarding what a Project Manager does. The PMI conducts this research every five to seven years in order to assure that the Certification Exam evolves as the profession evolves. This research was conducted by interviewing over 3,000 PMI Certified project managers who manage projects in a wide variety of application areas and geographic locations.

Approximately, 30% of the questions on the exam will change on August 31st, 2011. These changes are two-fold.

First, findings of the research, as outlined above, serve as a primary input into the exam question changes.

Two, questions concerning Domain 6 - PMI Code of Ethics and Social Responsibility will be integrated into the other testing domains and thus will no longer have its own separate domain.

The PMI do not state there is a change to the pass mark.

Other items which are out of scope are the following:

1.     Changes as a result to the updated PMBOK content – from Version 3 to 4.

2.     Changes to eligibility requirements.

As a Registered Educational Provider of the PMI, our advice is to take the exam before August 31st in order to avoid any issues which could occur with the new exam. Please feel free to contact PM-Partners to discuss any questions or training needs you have as a result of the upcoming change.
